This is the  first major tournament in the Bay Area.  It is always met some great expectations. I always look forward to make it back to the Bay Area.  I went to Santa Clara for my Ag degree.  The weather is great and the landscapes is some of the best around.  Berkeley is a haven for good restaurants.  Being in Berkeley brings back good memories.  I took my wife for our first date in nearby Piedmont to Fenton's Creamery famous for their crab sandwiches.

There was much anticipation as this was the last major tournament in Southern California.  There were 180 entries and according to Ichiro Hashimoto.  Dave Sakai was there with a group from Las Vegas.  Steve Varela of Reno also made it.  A group from Baja California also made it.  In the end, the singles finals was between local favourite Ben Johnson vs Du Cheng Yi.
